OUR VISIONARY

Ms. Shalonda N. Williams, MLS (ASCP)CM

Ms. Shalonda N. Williams is a unique and multifaceted individual. Whether in the classroom to the boardroom, from the background to the stage, she is a beacon of light for all those she encounters. She is a native of Washington, DC. She is a former professor, graduate, and student at Howard University.

Ms. Shalonda N. Williams is currently working on her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a concentration in Medical Chemistry. As a researcher, she has experience in modern drug discovery, which includes cheminformatics, molecular modeling, structure-based drug design and ligand-based drug design. She has used cheminformatic tools to identify novel and active agents which can potentially be used to treat neurodegenerative disorders as well as research about SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Some of her topics of research includes:

     • Integrative Pharmacophore Based Screening of Novel Antineuroinflammatory Agents to Treat Parkinson's Disease where she targeted inhibition of the MAC1-PHOX pathway as a promising avenue for treating the Parkinson’s Disease as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. Absent of a receptor structure, she used a ligand-based drug design approach and the validated pharmacophore models had been exploited to screen specialized libraries. The hits have been measured for in vitro and in vivo activities with two new neuroinflammation-associated rodent PD models.

     • Novel Structure-based Query to Screen Highly Selective HDAC2 Inhibitors to Treat Alzheimer's Disease were she aimed to identify highly selective inhibitors of HDAC2 assisted by novel structure–based approaches. She was able to identify novel compounds selective for HDAC 2 inhibition, which is a promising treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and other diseases in which HDAC2 inhibition is necessary for effective treatment.

     • Overcoming Cross-reactivity of Class I HDACs Isoforms with Tropolones: A Structural Study of Subselectivity to HDAC2 where she focused on Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition, which proves to be a valuable drug target for treatment of various disease states. Selective inhibition of HDAC 2 is a promising avenue in the reversal of debilitating clinical outcomes associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

As a former Clinical Instructor in the Clinical Laboratory Science Department at Howard University, Professor Williams has had the opportunity to impact a host of undergraduate students in the clinical and allied health sciences as they prepared to become future scientists. Her pedagogy created a solid foundation to which students could build upon the more complex concepts in science. The curriculum and educational activities that she developed in Clinical Immunology and Basic Clinical Laboratory Skills promoted an interactive learning environment that fully engaged and enhanced problem solving, critical thinking, effective listening, oral, and written skills of her students, by using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic methods. Her classroom consisted of students of diverse ethnic and professional backgrounds pursuing various degrees in Clinical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Medicine, Pharmacy, and other professional and graduate degree programs. She has played a vital role in propelling students in the correct direction to become future scientists. As an educator she has promoted the matriculation of undergraduate students in biomedical science, which accomplishes her goal of bridging the gap between minorities and the STEM disciplines.

Ms. Shalonda N. Williams has graduated Magna Cum Laude, and has become a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She has worked in hospitals in the DMV area in the Clinical Diagnostic Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunology, and Serology sections of the clinical laboratory. She works side by side with the pathologist solving challenging cases that may arise within the various patient populations, playing an integral part in diagnosing patient conditions in the clinical laboratory. Over the years she has been promoted to Core Laboratory Supervisor, managing the largest section in one of the largest laboratories in the Southern Maryland region for one of the most prominent healthcare systems of the east coast. She oversees the overall success of the Clinical Diagnostic Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis sections of the laboratory. This includes overseeing accurate reporting of innumerous patient laboratory results, the effective function of over 10 analyzers, and direct management of over 40 employees in the clinical laboratory.

Ms. Shalonda N. Williams is the proud business owner of S.N.W., LLC. S.N.W., LLC is the parent company of the following business: Aesthetics Artistry by Shalonda Nicole, Sacred Psalms Music, S.N.W. Productions, The I AM Movement, and The Youth Empowerment Summit. Her goal is to Inspire, Ignite, and Impact. Her business ventures allows her to live her passion out loud. From her youth she has had a love for the arts, whether singing, dancing, drawing, or writing. As a writer and producer of multiple plays, she has been able to foster a unique gift, bringing together acting, singing, and dancing to convey the love and message of Christ, through which many have accepted Christ into their hearts and rededicated their lives back to Christ. Scripture is just not meant to be read. It is meant to be applied, seen, and lived.

Aesthetics Artistry and S.N.W Productions allows her to bring life to scriptures, spreading the message of Christ to the world through art and performance. The I Am Movement allows her to engage with people from all walks of life and across all ages, encouraging and uplifting them along the way of each of their journeys, with the unveiling of self at the forefront. This is her ministry. This is her share in the Great Commission.
